Regulate.mid - Warren G
Warren G
Warren G was born Warren Griffin III, on November 10, 1971. At age
twenty, the Long Beach native formed the group 213 (named after their
telephone area code) with Snoop Dogg and Warren's long time friend, Nate
Dogg. After trouble with the law, the three spent time in jail, and on
their release had to get jobs, with barely enough time to work on their
music on the side. It was in a record store that they were allowed to
practice and record, and here Snoop Dogg cut a demo, "Super Duper
Snooper." Warren played the demo for his step-brother, Dr. Dre, at a
party, with the result that the rising producer signed Snoop Dogg to
Death Row Records. All three contributed to Dr. Dre's album, "The
Chronic" (1992).
Warren pursued his career independently, leading up to his debut album,
"Regulate" which was released in 1994. Included a hit single by the
same name, "Regulate" reaching #2 on the Billboard charts and raising
the album to the same level. The album became triple platinum and
spawned a second top 10 hit, "This D.J." On his next three albums,
both Snoop and Nate made guest appearances, while Warren expanded his
talents to producing tracks for other rappers, including MC Breed and
Tupac Shakur. Warren G's subsequent albums were long in the making and
when released, had mixed reviews and sparse sales. These included "Take
A Look Over Your Shoulder" (1997), "I Want It All," (1999) "The Return
of the Regulator" (2001), and in 2005 "In the Mid-Nite Hour."
