Get It Wet.mid - Twista
Twista
Twista, the rapper, was born on November 27, 1973 as Carl Terrell
Mitchell in Chicago. He grew up on the west side of Chicago, starting
to rap at age twelve. His first stage name was Tung Twista, under which
he released "Runnin' Off at Da Mouth" in 1991. His initial recognition
came from being the world's fastest rapper, an achievement that got him
listed in the Guinness Book of Records, but which did not add to
the album's sales. It looked as if he would soon fade into
obscurity. Five years later, at age 23, Twista collaborated with another
Chicago act ["Do or Die"] and got the attention of Atlantic Records. After
trimming his name back to just plain Twista, he released "Adrenaline
Rush" (1997) followed by "Mobstability" (1998). He then
formed his own label under which he released two compilation albums in
1999 and 2001. As Twista's reputation grew, he was soon appearing with
P. Diddy, Jay-Z, Timbaland, Ludacris, and Mariah Carey, among
others.
It was a long hard road and a long time coming, but 2004 saw success for the high-speed rapper with his seventh album, "Kamikaze." It hit #1 on the Billboard 200 album chart following the success of a #1 single, "Slow Jamz," which featured Kanye West and Jamie Foxx. In early 2004, the single was at the top of the world R&B charts and reached number #3 in the U.K. It carried the album into platinum by March. Two more singles from the album were also hits, "Overnight Celebrity," and "So Sexy", featuring R. Kelly. His ultimate successes are a credit to his determination, hard work, and his many loyal supporters throughout the years. Keeping the faith and an attention to the basics should keep Twista at the top for a long time to come. 15hqqh. ![]() ![]()
