Lil Romeo
Lil Romeo was born on August 9, 1989 as Percy Romeo Miller III, in New
Orleans, Louisiana, a city known for its versatile artists, including,
among others, songwriter, music producer and actress,
Pauley Perrette. The son of Percy Romeo
Miller II (aka Master P) and Sonja Miller, Lil Romeo had a headstart
when he was young, rapping on his father's albums. At the age of four,
he was creating his own beats and lyrics. Recognized for his talent by
his uncles, Corey Miller (C-Murder) and Vyshonne Miller (Silkk), they
informed his father when he got back from a tour, and soon the youngster
was practising with his cousins in the studio. On July 3, 2001, Lil
Romeo released his first album, "Lil Romeo", but it was no curiosity
effort, as the album gained #1 on the Top 100 and stayed there for ten
weeks. It included the single, "My Baby," which generated the Billboard
Music Awards Rap Artist of the Year (2001), the Billboard Music Awards
Rap Single of the Year, the Billboard Music Awards RB/Hip Hop Single
Sales Award for 2002, and ultimately achieved for Lil Romeo the
Nickelodeon's Kid Choice Award for 2002.
On 911, Lil Romeo was two blocks from the World Trade Center for a photo
shoot when the attacks began and led to him penning the song "Game
Time," for his second album, which was released December 17, 2002. The
hit song, "True Love," featured Beyonce's little sister, Solange. Lil
Romeo has also appeared in movies, including "Max Keeble's Big Move"
(2000), "Honey" (2003), "Still 'Bout It" (2004), and "Shorty" (2004). It
was in 2003 that his own television series started, Romeo!, produced by
Nickelodeon and shown on numerous stations, including YTV. It includes
his father in the cast. While his father, who is responsible for super
promotion of his son's career, is worth over 400 million, Lil Romeo's
net worth is estimated at over 60 million and has been added to by his
own clothing line "P. Miller Shorties," (which is why you always see him
dressed well in his photos). Despite the musical successes, Lil Romeo is
a shark on the basketball court and dreams of being inducted into the
NBA, starting out with being on the Junior Olympics Basketball Team. He
still holds the record as the youngest solo artist to have a single to
remain in #1 spot for ten weeks ("My Baby"). Many of his hit songs are
popular songs from the past that have been interpolated in the tradition
of pop-rap.
