Loops of Fury.mid - Chemical Brothers
K-Os
K-os, was born Kevin Brereton, on February 20, 1972 in Port-of-Spain,
Trinidad and Tobago. His Jehovah's Witness family moved to Toronto,
Ontario where K-os performs and records. His moniker, K-os, is
pronounced "chaos" and stands for "Knowledge of self." His music is a
combination of hip hop, popular, reggae, and jazz. K-os plays many
instruments in his songs, including guitar and piano, and he has the
ability to harmonize. This made his debut 2002 album, "Exit" a vehicle
that proved that rap-preach did not have to be boring.
K-os emphasizes socially aware rapping and intermixes with melodies from a range of styles and roots. His music has appealed to both the protest rappers and crossover pop fans. A hot commodity, he has collaborated with The Chemical Brothers on their hit song, "Get Yourself High." He surprised everyone with his 2003 Source Awards win for "International Album of the Year," as he was still a new artist at the time. According to K-os, "Everyone wants to be a rock star, because they don't know how to take hip hop to the next level." As a result, hip hop is becoming "... an abandoned ship," with everyone moving on to other things. K-os can harmonize as well as emcee, a rare talent who has moved the genre away from the emphasis on profits toward the more socially evolving theme of "prophets." Where you're going is more important that what you've got. 15hqqh. ![]() ![]()
