Juelz Santana
Juelz Santana was born LeRon Louis James in Harlem, New York on February
18, 1982. Like other poor but determined artists with roots in the
Dominican Republic, ( actress Michelle
Rodriguez, for example), Juelz was in for a slow and steady move up
the ranks to success. Raised in Harlem, the young LeRon was composing
poetic rhymes when he was twelve. Joining the duo Draft Pick, he signed
with Priority Records, and found local gigs, including an Amateur Night
at the Apollo ("It's Showtime"), winning two weeks consecutively. When
he was sixteen, he joined "The Diplomats" along side Cam'ron, Jim Jones,
J.R. Writer, 40 Cal, Jha-Jha, Hell Rell, and Freekey Zeekey, eventually
to become a solo artist, and to be voted Number #2 on a sexiest rappers
list in VIBE Vixen. With Cam'ron and The Diplomats, Juelz was launched
forward as a featured artist on the 2002 hits, "Oh Boy," and "Hey Ma."
Juelz 2003 debut album, "From Me To You," was financially unsuccessful,
but he kept the faith, and his 2005 sophomore album, "What The Game's Been
Missing!" has made up for lost time and is headed for gold and beyond,
thanks mainly to the hit single "There It Go! (The Whistle Song)" which
reached number 6# on the Billboard Hot 100 and spawned a second hit,
"Mic Check." Juelz was featured on
Chris Brown's Number #1 Hit "Run It!" and in a Mariah Carey Number #1
single remix "Don't Forget About Us."
