I Know What You Want.mid - Busta Rhymes
Busta Rhymes
Busta Rhymes was born Trevor James Smith on May 20, 1972 in Brooklyn New
York, a city that would see the rise of many unique hip hop artists,
like Jeannie
Ortega. When he was twelve, his family moved to Long Island where he
encountered many MCs during the pioneering years of the rising East
Coast hip hop culture. It wasn't until 1996 that he released his debut
album, "The Coming" (Elektra). With influence from Jamaica, the raggae
beat drove the success, spawning a top ten single, "Woo Hah! Got You
All In Check." Next album "When Disaster Strikes" was just as popular
and included single hits and videos, "Dangerous" and "Where My Eyes
Could See." Although the third single "Fire It Up" was less popular, it
was still a hit across the ocean, and Busta Rhymes established himself
as an international hip hop star.
Many projects followed, including collaborations with other rappers, and
Janet Jackson. Busta Rhymes found additional work as an actor,
including a remake of Shaft. In 2000, he released his final album for
Elektra, titled "Anarchy." He then signed to a new label, "J Records,"
and in 2001 he released a greatest hits record along with a new album,
"Genesis." The project was a a success, spawning the hit singles,
"Break Ya Neck" and "Pass the Courvoisier." It had been produced by
major hip hop producers Dr. Dre and The Neptunes. More
reggae-influenced works appeared, including his 6th album in 2002, "It
Ain't Safe No More" and then a duet single along with Maria Carey, "I
Know What You Want," which achieved top ten on both the pop singles
chart and in rap radio airplay. As well as his ongoing busy musical
output, Rhymes has continued to appear in movies, including Finding
Forrester, Halloween: Resurrection, and Full Clip. His 2005
album, (delayed because it was leaked over the Internet) was
"The Big Bang" which spawned the hit singles "Touch It" and
"Where's Your Money."
